Set up tracked links

A tracked link is a short link on cmtly.com that redirects to a page you choose. You put it in a reply or DM by typing {{link:slug}}. Each send gets its own token, so a click can be traced back to the comment or message it was sent in.

Only Admins can create, edit and archive links. Links to any web page work on every plan.

  1. Go to Settings → Links and click New link.
  2. Enter a Title and a Slug. The slug is the name you type in {{link:slug}}. It must be 3 to 32 characters of lowercase letters, numbers and single hyphens, and unique in the workspace. It does not appear in the link itself.
  3. Enter the Destination URL.
  4. Click Create link.

The link’s address is https://cmtly.com/ followed by an 8-character code generated when you create it. When someone opens it, they are redirected to the destination with utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign added, plus a utm_content value that carries the send’s token. You can change the campaign by editing the link. Edits reach the router within 5 minutes.

Type {{link:slug}} in the text of a reply, a private reply or a direct message, in a workflow action or when you reply by hand. The workflow editor lists it under the available template variables.

When the message is sent, {{link:slug}} is replaced with the link’s full address and that send’s token, for example https://cmtly.com/ab3x7k2m?c=…. The slug itself never appears in the message.

When you save a workflow, it is refused if:

  • a slug does not match a link in your library
  • a link would not be clickable on a platform the workflow runs on (see the table below). A workflow with no platforms chosen in Scope is checked against every available platform, so a link in a public reply needs the workflow limited to Facebook.
  • an AI reply template contains a link. That is not supported yet.

A link cannot be archived while a live workflow uses its slug. If a slug no longer matches a live link when a message goes out, for example because you renamed it, that message is not sent.

Facebook and Instagram are the platforms available to connect today.

PlatformPublic comment replyPrivate reply or DM
FacebookClickableClickable
InstagramNot clickableClickable

Instagram shows links in comments as plain text, so put the link in a private reply or DM instead. A reply you send by hand that carries a link where it would not be clickable is refused, not sent.

Settings → Links lists each link with Clicks · 7d, its clicks in the last 7 days.

Clicks are human clicks: link previews and bots are left out, and repeat taps by the same visitor on the same link within 10 minutes count once.
